Spring Inspiration

You never know where you will find inspiration, and sometimes you don't realize your inspiration is right in front of you until after the fact. My sister (the other Mrs. GotRocks) and I traveled to NYC for our regular bead buying extravaganza back in February, and we encountered the most amazing weather. Mid to upper 60s. In New York. In February. On a few of our well traveled paths, we found new Ted Baker stores and the florals in the windows drew us in. I was really taken with the oversized florals on dark backgrounds. So taken, in fact, that I unintentionally built my spring palette around them!  It wasn't until I got home that I realized why I had chosen the beads you see here.  Serendipity!

A Token of Love

Look closely Very closely. This is a coin, but a coin like no other. A British florin, one tenth of a pound. The obverse reads "Victoria d: g: Britt: Reg: f: d: mdccclxxi" meaning Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of Britain, Defender of the Faith, 1871.  Showing much wear after almost 150 years, this beauty shows signs of its former glory. Hints of an intricate lace bodice, a fleur de lis studded crown, lions, a thistle and shamrock, and the shadow of an Irish harp.  This coin is a stunning rarity.

And yet there is something even more striking and unique at play.  This florin is also a Love Token, sweetly engraved with the names Carrie and Willie. Carrie and Willie ... Were they engaged to one another, married perhaps, or are those the names of someone's children, maybe even twins? We can speculate, but we can also appreciate this sweet and simple token of love.  Strung on a chain of blue topaz, adorned with an antique tassel fob, you will not find another like it.

Y Not?

If you're going to accessorize, "Y" not make a statement?  Meet the GotRocks Jewelry Design Y Necklace.  A beauty with an antique soul, yet so bold and modern it keeps everyone guessing.  The gracefully scrolled gold fob, which once adorned the waistcoat of a Victorian gentleman, has been framed and enhanced by the most amazing marquise-shaped Brazilian amethysts and gray pearls.

It moves, it catches the light, it speaks to me.  I hope it speaks to you as well!

Brides: It's Old. It's New. It's Blue.

It has the look of an Edwardian "negligee" necklace, while at the same time looking completely fresh and modern. Antique, yet contemporary. The facets and movement of the dangling blue stones give it a little sparkle, while not upstaging the dress, or the bride. Trust me, this will look amazing with your gown. A little old, a little new, a little blue. Borrowed? You'll have to figure that one out on your own.
